This is the story of our family that merges the story of Quinta da Cabrida.
Quinta da Cabrida was born around the year 1750 and today we can visit it and discover a true passion for agriculture.
Predominantly with an apple production, but preserved its centenary olive trees, respecting their traditional production, and in this way obtaining a high quality olive oil.
Although we were born far from this place, but with an immense love, for the Douro and its nature, destiny took us to Quinta da Cabrida…
Our history has always been driven by Love at first sight … Its size, its landscapes, its trees and its olive grove were decisive for its acquisition in 2010.
In 1940, his grandfather, Gabriel de Paiva, a lover of nature and everything in it, owned a small farm in the place of Cimo de Vila in the village of Paço, municipality of Moimenta da Beira, a place also called Yard.
The farm had very old apple trees of variety around it Bravo de Esmolfe e Golden. After a few years in honor of my grandfather, that same farm was named after it, now called Quinta S. Gabriel. The apple, produced with a very high quality but in small quantities was not enough for orders.
At that time I was not yet ten years old and I already remember my father “renting” from village to village apple trees in the backyards. I grew up surrounded by trees, very early aroused my passion for agriculture, and at just 19 years old I started a 4-hectare plantation called Raposeira and which we joined Carregosaafter a few years.
A dream almost realized, because we lacked the charm of the Douro. With a constant struggle, with a taste for work and the will to win, it led us to acquire Quinta da Cabrida because it represented everything we were looking for.
The landscapes, the houses, the centuries-old olive trees make that place a paradise.
And as the saying goes “Son of fish can swim”, it is in the company of my son, José Guilherme, graduated in Agricultural Engineering, that I transformed Quinta da Cabrida, thinking about every detail and bringing new techniques and new plants of our travel abroad to apple-producing countries.
We acquire knowledge for one purpose only: to improve our product.
Today the apple is produced with much specialization. Production is done in an integrated manner, under the name GLOBAL GAP GRASP, which is subject to high production requirements and techniques.
In picking, we are attentive to the ripeningof the fruit, making sugar / hardness analyzes, which allows us to harvest on the key day. Thus, an apple with very specific organoleptic characteristics is obtained.
In winter, the olive is harvested in the traditional way.
Our olive oil has a very low acidity, and with an authentic flavor from the Douro lands.
For the future, I dream that this family work will grow and also pass on to our children and that in the years to come they will try to develop more and more of this work
